Accessibility

We are committed to making our website available to as many people as possible, meeting the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act, and make every effort to ensure our communications are accessible to those with special needs, including those with visual, hearing, cognitive and motor impairments.

Many Internet users can find websites difficult to use due to the way they have been designed. We recognise that this is an important issue and do our best to ensure that our website is accessible in accordance with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) guidelines.

We strive to obey the spirit of the UK Disability Discrimination Act 1995 with respect to the provision of services online, as required by the Disability Rights Commission. If you come across a page you find difficult to use please let us know.

Subtitling

Where possible, we strive to provide subtitling or transcription for videos and other forms of multimedia content, to ensure that this can be enjoyed by all of our website visitors. This is not yet available for all videos, but we are working to provide this service across our website.

Design and responsiveness

Many Internet users find websites difficult or even impossible to use simply because of the way they are designed. This website has been designed to be as accessible as possible and to be compatible with all types of adaptive technology.

The site uses only relative font sizes, compatible with the user-specified “text size” option in visual browsers and is written to display pages correctly in most commonly used browsers.

This site uses cascading style sheets for visual layout, meaning greater usability for assistive technology.

If your browser or browsing device does not support stylesheets at all, the content of each page is still readable.

Mobile responsive

The website templates we have in place allow our website to be easily viewed on a mobile or tablet device. As technology continues to change, we will strive to adapt our content to ensure a good user experience on any electronic device. If you feel any pages are difficult to read on a mobile or tablet, please let us know.

JavaScript

The site has been configured to allow users access to its full range of functionality whether or not they have JavaScript enabled in their browsers.

Where JavaScript is used, it is only used to enhance the user experience. It is never essential.

Pop-up windows

The use of pop-up windows on this site has been kept to a minimum. If a link opens a new browser window then this is explained in the title attribute of the link.

Links

Links have title attributes that describe the link in greater detail, unless the text of the link already fully describes the target. If you are using a mouse, or other pointing device, these can be viewed by hovering over the link text.
